...See more I am 22 years old. I have finally found a little strength to talk about what I have been through and my path toward understanding myself, in the form of an autobiography. I tried to remember the main moments that stayed with me and gather the events that were most significant to me. Childhood I grew up without a father and in poor financial circumstances. I was a fairly sensitive and quiet child. I cried often and had nightmares. From an early age I also had a tendency to retreat into my own thoughts. I remember one incident when I was separate from the other children, like in other reality and, I think, experienced a feeling of dissociation for the first time. That sense of detachment from reality stayed with me. I was often left alone and had to entertain myself. For a while I spent time with my grandmother. At times I was very active and arrogant, and I was punished for it, but somehow all of that would spontaneously give way to emptiness. I was often alone and, out of boredom, could spend an entire day simply riding my bicycle and occasionally watching TV. I do not remember spending much time with my mother; she was often dismissive toward me. My memories contain mostly fear and tears, even though I was always waiting for her to come home from work. Later, when I was about six years old, my mother and I moved into my stepfather’s apartment. This is where the painful memories begin. We lived in a small apartment with rats and a terrible mattress on the floor, so at times I had to sleep directly on the floor. My stepfather abused alcohol and was involved with drugs. I was exposed to sexual matters at a very young age. We had to sleep on the same mattress, and I began waking up at night because they were engaging in sexual activity under the same blanket. I could not even move because I was afraid they would realize I was awake. My mother openly discussed, in broad daylight, how and in what position they would have sex. I did not understand why they talked about this in front of me. I felt as though I was being punished, and I withdrew further and further from reality. Later, conflicts began in the family. My stepfather started drinking heavily and using drugs. I became afraid of him, especially because of his unpredictable, impulsive behavior. I did not speak to him. School In elementary school I did well academically, but at times my memory seemed to fragment, as if pieces of it were being erased. Because of this I might forget what I was supposed to prepare for class and receive a bad grade. Getting a bad grade became traumatic for me. Whenever my mother found out about a bad grade, I would leave her in tears and lock myself in the bathroom because of her harsh criticism. As I approached middle school, my academic problems and overall well-being got worse. I missed many assignments, copied other students’ work, and rarely prepared, yet I could still pass my classes. My teachers also began criticizing me for being slow and for my occasional impulsive behavior. I fell in with a bad crowd, and spending time with them became the best part of my life. I desperately did not want to go home, where my mother controlled me strictly. Constant escapism into computer games helped me get through the day faster, return to my friends, and hide from reality. Because my impulsivity was increasing, teachers told me that I had changed and asked, “Is everything okay with you?” However, these episodes were always followed by profound depression. During those periods I could do nothing; my body felt as heavy as lead. Everyone was used to seeing me as a quiet and “smart” boy. Every word hurt me deeply: my mother constantly insulted me, and some teachers called me worthless. Toward the end of school I was severely bullied by older students and was physically assaulted. After this, my memory seemed to discard even more information. I became increasingly afraid to go outside, hid from people, and saw danger everywhere, constantly anticipating and planning for possible situations. Despite all these problems, I began preparing for my exams with great enthusiasm and passed them successfully. But after the exams I felt a sudden emptiness. I still had no idea what I wanted to do next. I did not know where I wanted to study or what I wanted to do with my life. I did not want to continue studying at that school because I was afraid of seeing all those old faces. That was probably the main reason I chose to go to college instead, although I never told anyone about it. In the end I enrolled in a random college based on the logic: “It has a high admission score, so it must be a good major.” College The summer after I finished school passed. Then the college began giving us tests in our subjects. After that summer I developed a problem: I could not remember even basic things from my classes, despite having successfully passed the exams I had spent a long time preparing for. During a math test I took a sheet of paper and could not understand what I was looking at. I had definitely known how to solve all of these problems before, but it was as if I were seeing them for the first time. Because of this I received the lowest grade with a deep sense of shame and sank even further into depression. My performance in every subject deteriorated. It was painful to attend classes; shame in front of my classmates and passive suicidal thoughts filled my mind, and my self-esteem hit rock bottom. Any criticism immediately weighed me down like an anchor and shut my mind off. Yet in some subjects a single compliment about having done a good job could give me a surge of energy, and I enjoyed it. In those subjects I could outperform many of my classmates. Finishing College (Age 18–19) After college I developed a profound sense of emptiness and indifference toward everything, which lasted for a very long time. Every day I thought about death and philosophy. I stopped communicating with my old friends, exchanging only a few words with them from time to time. I was still living with my mother and stepfather, and they had also had a daughter. It was horrible being in that small apartment; I had absolutely no personal space. And once again: what do I do next? That question stayed with me. I continued my education in the same field at a university while working at the same time. Because the program was part-time/distance-based, I had to complete assignments at home and prepare for the next exam session without supervision from instructors. I could not make myself start. Even attempts at planning, timers, and other techniques did not help me concentrate or use my time rationally. Only severe anxiety during the final days would force me to do everything in a fight-or-flight mode. I noticed strange episodes: under extremely intense stress I seemed to become a different person. I began to like everything around me, including the subject I was studying; I made plans for everything, and my self-esteem soared. But once the stress passed I would fall back into a long depression accompanied by severe anxiety and paranoia. I became extremely slow and could not calm down; I pulled out my hair and picked at my face. These periods began alternating on their own with states that, based on the symptoms, seemed consistent with hypomania, although they were often tied to different interests. For example, I thought I was a poet and started writing poetry; I wanted to write a book; I wanted to make a game; I wanted to earn a PhD in physics or mathematics; and so on. After a year and a half at university, while preparing for the next exam session, even anxiety could no longer switch me into work mode; instead it paralyzed me. In the end I dropped out of university. I told everyone I knew that I simply did not like the major, while hiding my condition the entire time because I was afraid they would see me as a victim. Later I began to regret it. I felt like an impostor and stupid in every aspect of my life. My nightmares became worse. I began having recurring dreams in which, for some reason, I apologize to everyone. I also began having experiences associated with certain emotions—completely different stories and emotions with the same underlying theme: my weakness. Present At present my relationship with my mother remains extremely difficult. I often feel that she interferes in my life, does not see me as an independent person, and treats me as incapable or irresponsible. Because of this, intense anger builds up inside me, sometimes to the point of hatred. Right now what troubles me most is the feeling that I cannot develop or move forward. I wanted to learn many new things based on the interests I still have. Because of this I have started to see myself as someone who only makes plans and never does anything. Over the past few months my condition has become significantly worse. I can feel an unexplained fear, as if I need to prepare for something, without knowing what. Ongoing issues include muscle tension, back problems, low body mass index, isolation from the outside world, impostor syndrome, and other problems. At times I spend large amounts of money to compensate for this pain. My emotions have become more intense. Sometimes I crave very strong sensations because a calm state feels empty and unbearably boring. I sometimes think that it is better to feel anything at all, even if it feels very bad, than to feel nothing. I do not know whether this is part of depression, an attempt to escape the emptiness, a personality trait, or something related to mood swings. I can quickly become tired of social interaction and want complete isolation, while at the same time feeling lonely and needing closeness. Every day I went over my life story in my head and then forgot parts of it, returning to the same cycle every day. I began to suspect various conditions: bipolar spectrum disorder, complex PTSD (C-PTSD), autism, and various personality disorders. In the end I finally began to understand that what I had always thought was simply my personality might actually be a condition. I went to a psychiatrist, was prescribed medication, and am waiting for an appointment for a comprehensive assessment. I have begun to feel some hope, and some of the chains of the past are starting to fall away. However, I still have the thought of moving far away from all of this, going somewhere else, forgetting all my past connections, cutting off every way for people to contact me, and simply existing there. I hope I can survive.

Accepting that my aunt was abusive
by Summershy
Last post
June 19th
...See more Once upon a time: I lived with my late aunt between 2003-2009 and while she had great qualities, the woman was a covery narcissist.  She was never supportive and was never warm, fuzzy or genuine.  There were times where she would outright abuse me for "Not doing things her way."    Though controlling me worked for a while, I eventually became too independent for her grasp which led to a conflict that eventually had me moving out.  To her, I was the one with the problem who was selfish and self-absorbed while the gravy train came to a screeching halt or so she put it. What's more is that the tension between us began growing in July of 2009 when I turned on her computer in her office to try and log onto the internet when she was not home. What was the purpose of that?  I was logging into her internet so I could sign up for fall classes, which failed.  Additionally, I decided not to tell her, which I now know was wrong.   When she came home on that Monday, suddenly she was betrayed and could not trust me.   After that, the outbursts, the belittlement, name calling tensified.   Suddenly everything I did that bothered her either made me stupid or a know it all. Othertimes, I was the controlling one.   Yet, whatever the reason one, suddenly I was walking on eggshells around her.  For instance, I would make calls on my cell to a friend during peak times on my phone which led to a surcharge.    During that moment when I was dying my hair and looking for some peace, she yelled at me while the door was closed.   At at this time that I told her that I could not keep stepping on eggshells around her.   After that, she first began telling me that she could not live with me anymore.  After that, things became more and more certain that my days living with her were over.   While, I felt sad and scared, the more I liked the idea and moved out 3 months later.  However, no more abuse, no more bullying, no more tears, just peace.  Still, there is something you should know and while there were more rumblings in years but I will save that for another time.    However, she died a year after that second set of rumblings that left me going no contact with her.   Still, I feel haunted by what the mess she put me through and I am here crying today, which is ok.  Love Summershy

...See more i don't know why i write things down, it is hopeless for me. i am in a hopeless place. i lost an online friend i relied on since january and it is as serious to me as a rl loss. we were close and now it's over. im not doing well at all. i feel like i cant bear it. i failed and so did he but who just walks away like he did with me. im angry at how he pretended to care then walked away and jerked me around. im angry about so much. he didn't treat me fairly. and i will not take all the blame but why a blame game at all. im tired of what i endure and due to pride and paranoia i refuse to lay it all out b/c no one would understand a life like mine anyway. i feel like im on my last legs in this world and he was the one reason i had to keep going. im sick of loss and pain. what is the point of this pointless horrible life when people treat you like crap. the only thing he cared about was himself and in the end the drugs he pretended he was in recovery from. im so angry and i feel no hope. incest is not recovered from it is merely endure and it has gotten worse as ive gotten older. this life is beyond cruel and the lies of religion are thankfully gone as i refuse to believe in a god anymore who doesnt seem to even care about children. the catholic church is not for me. the only ppl rewarded in this life are evil ones.

Movie theater drama from my aunt and a respite provider
by Summershy
Last post
June 10th
...See more Dear diary: A few months prior to moving out of my aunt's house,  a respite provider, who took me to and from the bus quit on my aunt and I.  Why? It also started when I invited her to go see a movie with me at a value cinema as a way of saying "Thank you."  Because she had such a rigid schedule and was taking care of another client, I had to limit my options in movies.  At the time, I felt like I had to bend over backwards for her and her other client's needs.   She even had me schedule the time for us to meet up for the movie., Being that I was there early and wanted to enjoy the outing, another movie was playing and so I decided to catch the first hour and call her to leave a message about it.   I also made a habit of checking my phone but was not hearing from her so I decided to watch the entire movie.   When the movie got out,  I found two voicemails from her. 1. The first when she not until she was sitting in her seat at the cinema 2. The second one was a "Where are you? I have to find you' Meanwhile, my aunt also called me and said that this provider also called and she had mall security and theater staff looking for me, in a very angry tone telling me that what I did was "Unacceptable"   Shortly after that, the provider had the nerve to humiliate me by treating 27 year old me like a child and outright punish me,    This was where she pulled me away from the cinema, threw a tantrum and basically accusing me of breaking my promise and standing her up.    Yet, there were other times where she made it clear she didn't care about me and nor did she really seem to have time for me, -For example: My aunt's house flooded earlier that week but she could not be bothered to come and help me with the mess.  Two other floods were way more important.

...See more I created this space for me to be able to write - whatever is on my mind that I may not want replies too. It isn't that I don't appreciate the replies - it's that alot of times I am really uncomfortable with the support. Sometimes it's the well meaning words get twisted around in my head - sometimes it the well meaning suggestions that are turned around and taking the wrong way. Sometimes - it's fear - rejection - judgement - fear of offending someone with what I say. Even now - the creation of this is - causing some anxiety - and I feel the edge of a panic attack - so let's take a pause and a few deep breaths I often don't feel as though I deserve support. I waste peoples time and feel like an inconvenience. With that in mind - I've been slowly going quiet The TW is because - well - lets be honest - if I'm going to put some of whats in my head and and I don't want replies - you dear gentle reader should be warned at least. Because there are times my head is a scary place - I'll say I'm sorry in advance because sometimes I do swear - I try not to and I try to remember replace some letters - but well sometimes I dont care and sometimes I forget. Idk - I suppose I should say sorry for my sense of humor in advance too - because sometimes it's alittle dark or alittle inappropriate So - let's post and panic over this now shall we?

...See more السلام عليكم  Hello everybody  This is my last post as a teen seeing that tomorrow 31st of March 2026 is the day i will become an adult (legally). I consider myself among the grown ups since very long years. I am so thankful and grateful to Allah for all the blessings i am blessed🤍 and also for every challenge i faced. During these 18 years I had countless experiences, had many tears and had very much more smiles. Proudly , thanks to Allah's guidance and support i survived what i never imagined could happen when i was younger. Not only that but those scars made me stronger and wiser. I carry scars in my heart. Nevertheless, i don't think i would be this version of mine without them.  I am an adult now (legally). Alhamdulillah 🤍 May Allah the merciful guide me and us towards the straight path and help me in every single breath. May Allah the merciful, the all-knowing keep me firm and guide me toward what He loves and is pleased with. And finally make me one of his mercies to his servants.  آمين و صل اللهم و سلم و بارك على سيدنا محمد و آخر دعوانا أن الحمد لله رب العالمين

...See more Adding a TW just in case   Hi everyone,  my name is Ni. I’m 14 years old - right now anyways. I use she/they pronouns. I feel weird for making this forum thread but…. Somehow I feel the need to make another forum where I can rant and vent about life and the things that happen at home 💜 and just - in my head. (I wonder if that sounded weird? 😅)  a lot of the time I think of things to write and don’t write them in my other diary space. 💙 sometimes there’s just so much anxiety involved and it’s hard to post something… so many thoughts run through my head. And yeah. :')  Quite sure none of that made any sense xD my brain is a mess. 🤧 but hey… maybe that’s okay. Life is messy and things can get messy in our own heads.  I’m not 100% sure if i’m okay with replies or not in this space. i think i’m okay with replies from friends/people i already know here 💜 but not regular replies. If that makes any sense 🤧 lmao.

Community Guidelines

These are the Trauma Support Sub-Community Guidelines, which have been drawn up in addition to the 7 Cups main guidelines and are specific for the Trauma Support community:

  • Uphold and comply with the 7 Cups main guidelines
  • Respect everyone, members and listeners alike
  • Do not discourage/be unsupportive/blame/judge one another for their past
  • No graphic, in depth descriptions or pictures which could be triggering for others - in forums, chat and support session
  • Please always add a trigger warning if you believe your thread could be potentially triggering/harmful and/or contains one of the topics on this list. Also, please add a short topic description to the trigger warning (e.g. "Trigger Warning: Domestic Abuse) and if you're in a group support chat, wait a moment to see if everyone is comfortable with the topic. If not, agree on a time span during which the person who's not comfortable with the topic leaves the chat. Once they come back after this time span, change the topic.
  • Cursing not permitted and must be asterisked. (It is fine to vent and to express appropriate anger, but as curse words have often been used during abusive and traumatic experiences, we ask members and listeners to asterisk abusive/curse words to avoid triggering and upsetting members where possible and to maintain a respectful environment and to encourage positive and healthy expression of anger.)
  • Forums postings made by listeners and members should be transparent, made in English and should not be blocked out using colouring to disguise content of wording/messages sent between members/listeners, to maintain the safety of all users of the trauma sub community and to ensure all rules are being complied with.
  • Everyone is unique and their experiences are individual to them. Everyone’s experiences and how they think and feel about these are valid. Everyone reacts to traumatic experiences differently. This will be respected and appreciated without judgement.
