I am depressed but can't tell anyone. I hate people saying "oh, you matter" because it's just the same annoying response. I am not looking forward to talking to someone. How can I not be depressed?

When you are in a state of depression, the last thing you really want to do is be around people. We prefer to isolate whilst in this state. However, asking for help during these times is very important. Not only do you sometimes need an outlet for your problems or issues but you probably require some type of support as well. Asking for help can be a difficult thing to do as there can be fears of rejection or feeling unimportant if the person we ask to assist does not have time listen to you. However, when we are feeling depressed or down it is critical/important to reach out to someone you trust, either a professional or a trusted friend/family member and speak to them about what is on your mind. If we do not speak to someone in difficult or times of crisis then our thoughts and feelings can manifest and cause greater unhappiness and increase the current rate of active depression. There is nothing wrong with asking for help when you believe you need it. If anything, it shows you can acknowledge and ask for help when required rather than going around in circles and stumbling along on your own. Always keep in mind though, that what works for someone may not always work for you. We are all individuals and built in different ways.

I understand being annoyed by people telling you that you matter, it is true though. What's important when you have depression is to reteach your brain into feeling better. Depression is your brain on constant repeat of feeling no energy, unhappy. etc. 7cups has guided paths that help reteach your brain to cope with these feelings. Depression isn't something that will just go away, it takes time to heal from it. These guided paths help with healing and teach you positive coping mechanisms. Therapy is another way to help with depression. Therapists will do more than just telling you that you matter, they help work through your thoughts and identify exactly what's impacting you negatively.
