...See more Hey guys,  I have been dating this guy on and off for a couple of years in about three months ago. I had the conversation with him that we either need to push this forward or end things. When I said that he said he wanted to see me consistently so he bought my plane ticket for me to come and visit in Florida for a week as he has to be there right now for work. Things went really great and it was a really good week. He even told me that I was starting to feel like home. I told him that I know he is busy and so am I but we need to focus on consistency and we shouldn’t be going days without communicating and he agreed things were going really well for about a month after my trip to Florida and he is supposed to be coming here within a week and a half. The last couple of weeks he has not been responding to my texts and goes a week without responding. I’ve asked him if anything is wrong. He just said that he is really busy with work, but he feels the same. I have not heard back from him since Thursday and I’ve sent about six messages. He has also not confirmed that April trip, which she is supposed to be coming out in a week and a half. I feel like I’m going crazy is this him just ghosting me and trying to break it off what is happening here?

...See more Self-care isn’t always bubble baths and candles (though those are great too! 🛁🕯️). Sometimes, it’s as simple as getting out of bed, saying no, or making time for something you love. 💬💖 ✨ What’s one thing you’ve been doing lately to care for yourself - even if it’s just getting through the day? Let’s share ideas, support one another, and maybe even pick up a few new self-care habits. 💡🤗

"Why Do Meaningful Connections Require So Much Guesswork?"

...See more There's a particular exhaustion that comes from interactions where clarity is treated like a luxury rather than a basic courtesy. Whether it's friendships, work relationships, or even family dynamics, why does straightforward communication feel so rare? At this stage of life, you’d think people would value: Honesty ..."I can’t commit to this right now" instead of vague maybes Respect for time ... A simple "no" rather than leaving someone in limbo Emotional maturity ...The ability to say "this isn’t working for me" without ghosting Yet so often, we’re stuck deciphering mixed signals, waiting for replies that never come, or tiptoeing around conversations that should be simple. The worst part? When you finally speak up, you’re labeled "too intense" for expecting basic transparency. We can also discuss. 1. Have you noticed this trend in non-romantic relationships too? 2. Why do you think people avoid directness, even when it would prevent hurt? 3. For those who’ve broken this cycle.. what changed?

...See more About 8 months ago, my husband told me he was seing someone else, it was faily new, maybe a couple of months ago, the guilt was eating him alive, he ended it, told me about it and wanted to make our marrage work. There are 20 years of a life we had built together, and while I could see the changes he was displaying during that time never in my life could I have guess that this was going on.  We did couples therapy and individual therapy for about 6 months, we both have agreed that healing from this is going to take time, lots of time, and while I feel like our marriage is going down a good path I still have doubts and trust issues And I would really like to hear from other people that have been there and that have made it, that can share their journey with me and can tell me that even though its hard there is light at the end of the tunel and that a marrige can survive this and be better than what it was before.

When someone screams "go away" should you?
by Clio9876
Last post
July 9th, 2023
...See more The article below is about handling toddler tantrums. But I found it a lovely description of listening when it's hardest. And just as useful for adult relationships. https://www.handinhandparenting.org/2021/02/when-your-child-screams-go-away-should-you/ Here's my summary of the main points. When someone we love is upset, we want nothing else but to help them. But what to do when that help is thrown back at us? When someone's words or actions scream "go away", we're left feeling hurt and rejected. When they stomp off and slam a door in our faces, we’re confused. Should we stay close or do as they ask and go? You can feel caught between wanting to help and wanting to respect their autonomy and request for space. "Go away!" is usually code for "I feel so badly inside and your presence makes it impossible for me not to feel this way". The next time someone's words or actions scream "go away!", try substituting "Help! I'm a chaotic mess inside and I don't know what I'm doing!" Try to remember a time from your own childhood when you felt awful and afraid and were unable to tell an adult what was happening or what was needed. What would you have preferred to happen? Take a breath and ask yourself these questions: Am I able to really listen right now without needing the other person to be different, or for this to be over? Do I feel welcoming of these big feelings? Don't try to stay and listen if you don't have the capacity. There will be another opportunity. Remind yourself that the words and actions of the other person are not personal, but a reflection of their feelings to what they are feeling. The only thing you have to do is listen. You don't have to understand why this is happening or solve what happened. "I'm just going to sit over here and listen" "I'll give you some space, but I want you to know that I'm near." Expect things to look worse before they get better. The author suggests thinking that the more upset they get, the harder they are working to resolve difficult feelings, as a way to keep yourself calm and centered. This understanding is far from what most of us grew up with, so it can be hard to stay calm, listen openly and not to doubt yourself. But, the author finds that finding a way to stay close results in a better connection. Afterwards: "you had some big feelings and I'm so glad I was able to be near you. I'm glad I got to listen"

Positive Self-Talk ideas

June 27th, 2023
...See more Hey there, 35+ people! How are you doing today? Today, we are going to discuss a little bit about self-talk and how we can use it to improve our lives. Self-talk is the way you talk to yourself. You can also think of it as your inner voice. You might not be aware that you're doing it, but this inner voice combines conscious thoughts with inbuilt beliefs and biases to create an internal monologue that you tell yourself throughout the day. This Healthline article explains a little more, and gives practical ideas to incorporate positive self-talk into your daily routine: https://www.healthline.com/health/positive-self-talk [https://www.healthline.com/health/positive-self-talk] You can also read this Lifehack article, with 15 tips. My favorite from this list is #4. Don't Play the Comparision Game! Life is not a race, and we can all go at our own pace. Here is a chart with some examples of how you can change negative self-talk into positive! (similar to a growth mindset) Think about it: What kind of messages do you give yourself? Are you telling yourself encouraging, positive things, or are you constantly criticizing yourself or putting yourself down in your mind? Try to think of at least ONE positive thing that you can tell yourself this week. Write it on your hand, on a sticky note, or on your bathroom mirror, and remember that YOU are valuable. You have the power to change your inner dialogue. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Interested in joining the 35+ Team? Question about adults with braces (teeth)
by ReadBooks7
Last post
June 7th, 2023
...See more Hi, I'm new to this community but not to Cups. I'm considering getting braces or Invisalign for my teeth (I never knew this could happen, but apparently teeth and the jawline can shift quite a bit sometimes as people get older). I'm not asking for advice, but I would like to know if anyone has any experience with getting braces a bit later in life, if it helped, how often you still wear a retainer, if it hurts, etc. I figure it might help me make a decision if I hear about others' experiences. Thank you so much!
