Greetings all, Im new as of yesterday. I havent had much time here to interact much. It time me forever to allow myself to just confirm my account, then had to go to work immediately afterward.

As for how Im doing today, just okay. Its been a beautiful day out so Ive spent a few hours out of the house.

What I do to help myself at times, is go on long bike rides, go for a run, read, or write music.

Im both nervous and excited to be here.

Hi everyone, I'm also new! Writing this feels odd, because I never would have imagined myself posting to a thread, let alone joining something like 7cups. I decided 2019 was about time I did more to get my mental health in check, and I thought this place was as good as any to start with.

For self-care, I enjoy painting, writing, listening to music, and occasionally going for runs outdoors (bonus points if the weather is nice and I get to watch the sunset). I also find it therapuetic to water, prune, and otherwise tend to my plants - there's something really nice about caring for something living.

All in all, I'm glad to be here and really think it will be beneficial to me in the long run. Hoping the same for all of you as well!

Hi there @impatiently! Very new myself and wondering about what this community might be able to do for me (and, through me, for my partner) - I've never done anything like this before!

Thought I would reply to your post as it struck a chord with me - I LOVE my plants! I also used to take great pleasure in looking after them - deadheading, removing old leaves, repotting, watering... but as my depression worsens I sadly end up neglecting the poor things - basically if I have a new plant it either dies because it cannot cope or it "survives" living with my irregular care and then somehow lives for donkeys. Ficus plants are great survivors - I've managed to keep one going for 20 years, somehow! I hope that you are able to keep up the good work; that you never get to the point that I do and neglect them a bit too much - it just makes me even more sad when one of them dies or when my Ficus sheds lots of leaves because it's dry. Here's to happy, looked-after plants!

Welcome to 7 Cups, and best wishes,

Womble

Hi @Womble42! Seeing your reply brought a smile to my face - just the thought of someone reading and reacting to my post was unexpected but a pleasant surprise.

I too have had a few unfortunate cases of plant neglect; even succulents have died under my care. It is always sad to realize when they can't be saved.. but there have also been some miraculous recoveries! I thought my calathea was doomed last winter when 80% of his leaves shriveled up due to a poor choice of location near the heat blasting in my apartment (and yes, I do name my plants), but new growths this month are giving me hope. It's true that they can be extremely finicky but it is very rewarding to see them flourish! I try to use these moments to motivate me, because I know if I don't want them to die I need to be more attentive. It reminds me that there is always hope! Even if a plant has run its course or doesn't survive, I find myself purchasing new ones with renewed determination to take better care of them. But perhaps I'll look into getting a ficus as my next addition, since it doesn't hurt to have some higher chances of survival :-)

Best of luck to you (and your plants as well)!

@Tazzie

I joined a few days ago. I heard about it while scrolling through Pinterest a few years ago, but only sought it out recently. A lot of changes have been happening in my life and that has affected how I feel. Although I know I can't change that, I do try to. The only way to help is to make myself preoccupied with other things like baking, cooking,volunteering, etcetera. I hope that by using this I will become better.

Hello, My name is April! I had been dealing with mental health since I was a junior year in high school! It was ups and downs! I seen a therapist last year and I have to wait until next month to see the doctor and I can see a therapist! I seriously dont like waiting and I really just want to help myself feel better! The reason why I am here is that I heard that 7 cups have supported a lot of people that they are going through their struggle in life! I want to be part of it! I am also new here as well! Its nice to meet you all here!

Hi

Hi there :)

I found 7Cups while scouring the internet for some kind of support for depression/anxiety. I have been going through a really tough time and I just needed someone to listen, and maybe even help. I've connected with a therapist here (though I'm not sure how long I can afford her so I'm trying to make the best use of a short time), and with a couple of listeners. It feels good just to be heard, to express the feelings that I have trouble verbally saying.

I'm pretty sure I have something (whether it's depression or some kind of anxiety, I don't know), because I know the way I feel is not normal. I can remember feeling happy and fulfilled, but it seems like such a long time ago, and I don't know if I'll ever feel that way again. And I haven't gone to a doctor yet because I have an irrational phobias of two things that hinders me - doctors themselves, and men (lo and behold, our doctor happens to be a man). Not all men, but most.

For self-care, I like to close my door, put on headphones and dance to music (usually the entire soundtrack to The Greatest Showman; I love that movie), and I also love to play music and read. I also rewatch the 2011 play Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant and Catherine Tate on YouTube (look it up!! I've watched it a dozen times, and it still makes me laugh).

Thanks for reading :)

@lonelylinguaphile

hi! I can relate to your post, I also found 7 cups while searching for some type of support group and I too think I may have depression, but I am too scared to find out for sure. Message me if you would like someone else new to talk to!

@Christiinnaa

Hi! Thanks - nice to hear from a friendly fellow sufferer. My 7cups therapist and I have been working together for about a month now, and based on what I've told her and the answers I've given to her questions, she says I have all the symptoms of a depressive disorder sad I am still too afraid to go to our family doctor, but the therapist on here has been super helpful and hopefully we can work through my issues to some sort of level ground. I'm really glad I contacted her about it. Thanks for the offer of a chat - I may yet take you up on it!

Take care :) heart

Hi All,

I just joined today:) ive never been to therapy, nor spoken to strangers about my stuff but Im at a point where I feel like I need to voice out my feelings to someone who is non judgemental and is willing to listen.

I just moved to a new country and havent got a tight support group yet where I am. And Im going through a breakup with someone who used to be a very important person in my life for a very long time. It is not the first time we cut things off, but this time I made sure it is definitive.

I loved him incredibly much but it just didnt work. And I kept finding myself feeling hurt.

I know my decision to cut him out of my life is the best thing I can do for myself now but it still hurts. So whilst there is pain in me, there is also hope for better days and Im doing everything I can to cure the wounds.

I havent been able to discuss my pain in detail with my friends and family because they are overseas, and because I dont want to hear the same I told you so.... So thanks for reading everyone. Hope 2019 will mark a new fresh beginning to more fulfilling moments:)

Welcome,

I am new too. I just wanted you to know, you aren't alone. I understand the pain of walking away from a potentially toxic relationship and the many emotions that come with that. If you want or need to talk specifics I am more than willing to listen. ❤
