Forum Guideline Refresher: Listener Boundaries & Utilizing Member Accounts

...See more Whether you are new to the community or a seasoned Listener, it’s always good to refresh ourselves on the guidelines that keep our platform safe. One topic that comes up often is Listener Boundaries (specifically Forum Guideline 7) and knowing when to use a Member account. The Golden Rule: Maintain the Listener Role When you are logged into your Listener account, your primary focus should be on giving support. If you are going through a tough time, need to vent, or are looking for emotional support for your own personal struggles, please switch over to your Member account. This ensures that anyone reaching out to a Listener is connecting with someone who is currently in the right headspace to help. ------------------------- Relating vs. Seeking Support It is totally natural to want to connect, but there is a clear line between empathizing with someone and accidentally reversing roles: * Okay (Relating): Briefly mentioning a past experience to validate a Member's feelings and show them they aren't alone. (e.g., "I hear you. When I dealt with anxiety, I felt really overwhelmed too.") * Not Okay (Seeking Support): Sharing your current struggles in a way that shifts the focus to you, which puts the Member in the uncomfortable position of having to comfort you. ------------------------- Keep Your Accounts Separate To protect everyone's boundaries, 7 Cups requires your Listener and Member identities to remain completely separate. * Please do not link your two accounts in your bio or username. * Avoid announcing, "I'm going to switch to my Member account now." Just log out and log back in! * Keeping these separate stops lines from blurring and prevents Members from feeling obligated to support a Listener they previously confided in. Listener Boundaries are enforced in Forum rule #7: "Users are expected to maintain a listener role if on a listener account. This includes not seeking emotional or personal support and following the expectations of a listener outlined in active listening. Please switch to a member account if necessary." Please note that violations of this guideline result in post removal. ------------------------- What About Listener Support? ...See more 🌟 What is the Rising Star Program? The Rising Star initiative aims to reach users who have the enthusiasm for giving more to 7 Cups! It is created to help identify potential, guide people toward opportunities they may not know exist, and offer direction to those who don’t know how or where to start. We’re looking to recognise potential at all levels, whether you’re nominating a fantastic listener who is not yet verified, you have identified someone with potential to be a leader, or you want some help to find the perfect leadership role for yourself. There are no limits as to who you can nominate or what you can nominate them for! We are here to support you and help be part of your 7 Cups leadership journey.  🌟 Who can nominate and who can be nominated? Anyone! There are no restrictions as to who can nominate or be nominated. You can also self-nominate or use the form to get support in finding a suitable leadership role for yourself. 🌟 How many roles can I nominate someone for? Every individual can be nominated for up to three roles. We do however, recommend that the nominator thinks carefully about each role to ensure it is a good fit; our intention is to give an opportunity to these talented people without making them feel overwhelmed. ...See more Forum Engagement Challenge We are devoted to providing a supportive and inclusive space for all to interact and explore. As part of this mission, we need to evolve and increase awareness to help ensure every user gets what they deserve: a reply to their post. When a user doesn't get responded to in an adequate timeframe, it can leave them feeling disengaged and disappointed. Our forum engagement challenge is a monthly initiative to help ensure every user gets a response as soon as possible.  What is the Forum Engagement challenge? The Forum Engagement Challenge is a monthly campaign where we encourage all members, including Admins, Ambassadors, leaders, and everyone in between, to actively participate in forum discussions. The goal is simple: make 7 meaningful replies within the designated period. By responding promptly to posts, whether it's welcoming new members or contributing to ongoing discussions, we can create a sense of belonging and connection that enriches our community experience. Why Participate? 1. Build Community: Engage with fellow community members to strengthen our community bonds. 2. Support: Show your support by responding to posts promptly and offering assistance where needed. How do I participate? 1. Reply to this thread to confirm your participation. We should all aim to reply to at least 7 different needs reply posts within the month, but the more the merrier! 2. Find your way to the Needs Reply Queue [https://www.7cups.com/forum/7cupsleadership/ForumGuides_2597/HowcanIviewtheneedsreplyqueue_334779/].  3. Decide on a thread which you'd like to reply to. Consider picking one at the top of the list as these users have been waiting the longest.  4. Once you're ready, post a meaningful reply. What do I get for participating? First of all, you get the satisfaction of supporting others. This is a reward which cannot be matched. ...See more Since we launched our monthly forum spotlights, we have noticed an overall increase in engagement. Following our 2024 forum unwrapped [https://www.7cups.com/forum/siteupdates/EventsDiscussions_2666/ForumUnwrapped2024Statistics_344129/], we also realised how wonderful it was to share our statistics with you. This is why we wanted to tweak our forum spotlights going forward so that all community users feel valued and appreciated.  Please find below the new structure for our monthly spotlights and an explanation of what each part will consist of. Thread discussion and events spotlight Leaders and community users can continue to submit threads / discussions to showcase at the end of each month through this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSchnFah-pa_1ZKBOL5Co_b4g051ohN3H-lCiE8PSC8fNkeeLw/viewform]. These will continue to be part of our monthly forum spotlight as it allows us to showcase the efforts of individual communities and leaders. Engagement challenge Our engagement challenge has helped ensure everyone gets a reply to their post. Our events calendar is a great place for us all to keep on top of what is happening within the forums and group support.
