We can then offer the support you're seeking.  This is a supplement to the group chat - sometimes a slower pace allows for new ideas to pop up, and it sticks around for all timezones.

Shared Spaces, Shared Respect: A Reminder on Tolerance & Inclusivity
by Heather225

...See more Hi everyone! 7 Cups is, at its core, a global sanctuary built on empathy, acceptance, and community. We host a wide variety of group chat rooms to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, struggles, or identity, has a safe place to feel seen and supported. We want to address a situation that occasionally comes up across our platform, particularly within our LGBTQ+ room, regarding how we interact with spaces that might not apply to us. Sometimes, individuals enter a room simply to express discomfort with its presence on their sidebar or to ask how to remove it. Entering any topic-based support room, whether it’s for the LGBTQ+ community, grief support, chronic illness, (etc., to question its visibility can unintentionally disrupt the supportive environment inside. For communities that may already face outside challenges, our rooms need to remain absolute safe havens. When an interaction makes members feel like they have to defend their right to be visible, it impacts the core purpose of that support group. True tolerance means embracing that spaces exist for everyone, respecting their right to be visible, and allowing those rooms to remain peaceful and inclusive. How the Chat List Works To clear up any confusion and prevent these unintended disruptions: * Active public rooms display automatically so those in need can find them. Listings cannot be customized or hidden individually. * Visibility is not enrollment: Seeing a room on the list does not mean you are a member or obligated to engage. * You choose where to enter: If a room or topic doesn’t apply to your life or beliefs, you simply do not have to enter. The most supportive choice you can make for your fellow members is to just scroll past. No matter which room you visit or find comfort in: You belong here, you are welcome, and your spaces are valid. Let’s continue to choose kindness, hold ourselves to a high standard of mutual respect, and do our caring community proud. ------------------------- Please review our full 7 Cups Community Guidelines to learn more about our standards for respect, safety, and inclusivity. Please refer to this document [https://docs.google.com/document/d/18bn3bahNlQojZX1wsaDAoTE3tJe6iYydoWDlVcY-Rdc/edit?tab=t.0] if the text below is not displaying. Adults * Support Room 24/7: Known as SR, this room is the core, around-the-clock hub for active emotional support. It is designed for deeper, more focused conversations about mental health, personal struggles, and daily challenges. * Member Community Room: Well known as MCR, this room is designed for purely casual, off-topic general chat and lighthearted socialization. It serves as a relaxed space where members can decompress, make friends, and connect over everyday interests * Social Support Room: Sometimes members may not need a full support chat, but they may want more than casual small talk. The Social Support Room is meant to offer that middle ground: a warm, low-pressure space for connection, encouragement, and shared activities. (Read more about this room here) https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/General_2446/AnnouncementNewTrialRoomSocialSupportRoom_381161/ * Sharing Circle: The Sharing Circle (SC) is a structured, hourly group-listening environment designed for members to take turns expressing whatever is on their minds in a safe, non-judgmental space. Hosted by volunteers, this room operates on a queue system where members are given an uninterrupted block of time (typically 5–7 minutes) to share their feelings, experiences, or struggles while the rest of the room actively listens and offers validation. * Welcome Lounge: This room serves our brand-new users. It’s an open chat space where new users can drop in, introduce themselves, and get oriented before they set out on their 7 Cups journey. It is visible to those with the Newbie badge. * Listener Support Room: Also known as the LSR, it is a dedicated space where Listeners can ask questions related to the practice of listening, navigate their listener journey, and receive guidance and information from fellow Listeners. * Listener Community Room: Also known as LCR, this is the Listeners’ relaxed, casual hangout space. It is designed for building camaraderie, making friends, playing games, and other decompressing activities. Teens * Support Room 24/7: The teens-only version of Support Room. * Teen Community Room:  Also known as TCR, the teens-only version of Member Community Room. * Teen Listener Room: Also known as TL, the teens-only version of the Listener Support Room. * (Pop-up) Playground: This teen-exclusive dynamic space is built around fun, engagement, and interactive events. It operates as a designated, safe area where hosts run games and activities designed to bring joy, laughter, and a strong sense of belonging to teen members. Types of rooms: * 24/7: Support Room(s), Community Room(s), Sharing Circle, and LSR/TL. * Pop-ups: Pop-ups are sessions, either impromptu or scheduled via the Community Calendar [https://www.7cups.com/forum/communityCalendar.php], in topic-based rooms. New Criteria Updates: Group Chats Easier To Access Now!
by ASilentObserver
Last post
April 29th
...See more Hello everyone, As you all know in Nov 2019, we introduced certain criteria to access group chatrooms. We badge-locked group chatrooms due to safety reasons and to ensure a supportive and friendly environment for the community members. Over two years, group chats [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php] went through a lot of changes and improvements. We are grateful to all the members, listeners, and group support leaders who helped to maintain and sustain the safety and support levels and went above and beyond to increase them. Group Etiquette for an Inclusive Space
by Heather225
Last post
February 25th
...See more Hello everyone. Our community exists because of the care and connection you bring to these spaces every day, wherever you come from, whatever your story, your presence matters here! To make sure our rooms remain a safe and welcoming place for everyone, we need to be mindful of how we interact. This is especially true for newer members, people in different time zones, or those who might feel hesitant to speak up. I am sharing some clear guidelines on community support etiquette and expect everyone to follow these practices to help keep our spaces open and truly inclusive: 🫵 You Are Never Interrupting: It can be intimidating to walk into a room where an active conversation is already happening. You might worry about interrupting. Please know that in our support spaces, sharing your thoughts or progress is never an interruption. It is the reason we are here. There is always room for you to jump in. Please note: When coming into a room, people are always welcome to join in. If there's a structured discussion, though (guided discussion, sharing circle, etc.) there's a topic, and there may be a process to take turns as well. Take a look at the top of the chat for a banner, and the host should be able to help guide you  💬 The Pause and Welcome Practice: When you are deep in a conversation with another member, it is easy to lose track of the room. We ask that you periodically pause and look around. If someone new has dropped in or shared an update quietly in the background, stop to acknowledge them. Take a moment to explicitly welcome them and loop them into the conversation so nobody feels left out. 🤝 The 1-for-1 Support Rule: Support is a shared responsibility. When you drop into a room to share an update, ask for advice, or vent, take a moment to scroll up and reply to at least one other person's message. Even a simple word of encouragement ensures that everyone feels heard. Please give support just as you receive it. 💞 Share the Space: We value when members connect. However, to prevent a room from being monopolized by just one or two voices, please be mindful of leaving some quiet space in the room. Those moments of quiet are often exactly what someone else needs to feel comfortable typing out their first message. Make sure you are leaving room for others to speak. 🌎 Timezone Friendly Support: Our community is global, meaning members log on at all hours. If you see a message from someone who posted hours ago and did not get a response, go ahead and reply. Late support is still support, and it means a lot to wake up to a kind message. Remember that we are stronger together. Thanks for looking out for one another!

Clarification of the "no caps" rule.
by Heather225
Last post
February 13th
...See more The no caps rule exists to keep our rooms safe and quiet. Typing in all caps can be interpreted as the digital version of shouting and can be jarring for members who are already stressed or overwhelmed. Using lowercase helps the room stay a low-stimuli space where everyone can feel at ease. This practice keeps the chat balanced so no single message dominates the screen. While you can still use caps for acronyms, we keep the energy mellow in Group Support to make sure the space remains supportive for everyone. Thanks for your cooperation and for looking out for one another!

Always Here Project Launch
by Kieran000
Last post
January 21st, 2025
...See more Hello everyone! I hope that you all are doing well. We’re excited to announce the rebranded launch of the Always Here - Support Room 24/7 Project originally launched in 2021 and received positive feedback.  Background and Reasoning Unfortunately, efforts to revive the project in 2022 were not as successful as hoped. We are trying again in a rebranded way with assurance that people get a consistent and reliable experience. As it’s been a couple of years, most of the previous hosts and some leaders are no longer active so we are starting fresh but I will tag previous hosts / leaders just in case they’re willing and interested to join us again with helping out in SR! Having spent a lot of time in the group chat rooms, it’s terrible to see people being ignored due to the sheer volume of messages that sometimes occur, or being faced with complete emptiness as they enter the room.  We can help shift this issue, which by all means is no one’s fault but instead a product of various different factors.  Project Overview and Host Requirements  Members and listeners, teens and adults, can sign up to provide a half-hour or an hour per week (or more) of a listening ear for those in the Support Room 24/7. There’s no script, just natural responses and presence, supportive resources for hosts will be found within the host Sheets dashboard which will be shared within PMs after successfully applying.    On-spot hosting is available too. Whenever you spend at least 30 minutes in SR you can be rewarded and receive recognition for your hard work through peer feedback. Just contact me (@Kieran000) to join the team if you can’t stick to fixed weekly times. Requirements: Currently there are no requirements to join the team, however performance and any issues are monitored closely when they arise, to ensure everyone is receiving positive support.  You will be awarded 50 cheers per half-hour that you host and the quota is one session per week to remain active on the team.  Sign Up Please use this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeEgSrzc-cS4wJxnfLzjT9FcFGmMGL6R1p_Eh8Uv9a6wA4Kjw/viewform] to sign up to become a host and help us improve the support available to members of our community within the Support Room 24/7.  Once applied, you will be contacted by a project leader who will provide further information and be your point of contact for anything relating to the role unless encouraged otherwise! If you don’t hear anything within 4 days of applying, please do send me a message. Thank you all very much for reading, and helping out in the rooms, also for getting through your own struggles that may still be ongoing. Let’s make the Support Room 24/7 a comfortable place for everyone to seek quality support. Looking forward to any applications.

Group Support Roles Update!
by ASilentObserver
Last post
August 21st, 2023
...See more Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well! Today, I wanted to talk to you about a couple of updates we have for our group support roles in terms of training. We've also created a new moderator guide to help moderators navigate their responsibilities effectively. Update I) Group Support roles: Addition of Training Guides Firstly, let's discuss the introduction of additional training in group roles. We understand that as our community grows, it becomes crucial to ensure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to their roles and responsibilities. By implementing specific training guide completion, we aim to provide a better understanding of the topic. Completion of training guides will be a mandatory process for all applicants who wish to take up a group role. We want to equip our group leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their roles and contribute positively to our community. The information is now available in both the room supporter and moderator guides. Update II) New Moderator Guide Now, let's move on to the new moderator guide. This guide is updated to assist our moderators in effectively carrying out their responsibilities. Moderators play a crucial role in maintaining the harmony and integrity of our community, and we believe that providing them with a clear set of guidelines will enhance their effectiveness. We believe that these updates will not only streamline our group roles but also foster a stronger sense of community and collaboration. We are committed to continuous improvement and growth. Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication. If you all have any suggestions or ideas to strengthen and support our leaders better, please do share them with us. ------------------------- Apply for Room Supporter here [https://7cups.com/forum/groupmod/ApplicationStation_2417/RoomSupporterUpdatedRequirementsandApplication_247786/] Apply for chatroom moderator here! What is the "Community Leader" Badge?
by Heather225
Last post
June 2nd, 2023
...See more Hi, everyone! If you’ve spent time in the rooms, you’ve likely seen some users with a Community Leader role listed under their names. A lot of you have asked what criteria are tied to this. We created the CL badge to act as an umbrella for all group chat badges that used to be visible in the rooms. Fewer badges displaying also reduces the loading rate of a message sent by a user with, for example, 2 or more badges appearing in the room. The CL badge is auto-awarded. Here is the document listing all roles that fall under it. [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B1mgSyCwIYJzeli0bqK2QTB3mRATiBu3DkaYz6lo6h4/] The idea of manual badging has been suggested. However, with all the other significant tech changes in the pipeline, we’re not at a point to consider it. Again, the CL role was invented to cover the groups domain in terms of relevancy, since it’s exclusive to supporting rooms. Sorry, it took us a bit to get to clarifying this. We hope this clears up all confusion!
